What started out to a be a young, eight year old boy’s dream of being a “Jonas Brother,” surprisingly has turned into a Rock n’ Roll journey he would have never imagined.
Meet Alex Shaw, a 12 year old guitar prodigy who’s determination to follow in the footsteps of many of the great guitar legends, is earning him recognition both locally and nationally.
Only playing the guitar for 4 years, Alex has a natural ability that has astonished even the most seasoned musician. Alex began his musical journey at age eight after being given the opportunity to take guitar lessons through a foundation that provided scholarships for children with a desire to pursue music. Shortly after discovering his natural gift and love for the guitar, Alex made it his mission to “pay it forward” and use his talents as a means to give back to the community and help those less fortunate. His overwhelming hours of community service, his academic achievements, along with exemplifying unique acts of kindness and caring, has earned him the coveted “Character Counts” award in 2011, the Brothers/Sisters Keeper Scholarship in 2012, and most recently an invitation to attend the Junior National Young Leaders Conference in Washington, DC this summer.
In his short career, Alex has many musical highlights that he is proud of. At age nine, Alex earned an artist endorsement with one of the world’s largest guitar manufacturers, Samick Music Corporation, making him Samick’s youngest endorser. With this title, Alex has had the privilege of attending the NAMM Show (National Association of Music Merchants) in Anaheim, California where he demonstrate these guitars. At age ten, Alex had the honor of sharing the stage with legendary saxophonist and long time member of Bruce Springsteen’s band, Clarence Clemons, in a concert to benefit the Kids Cancer Foundation. Alex has also traveled nationally playing at such venues as the famous BB King’s Blues Club, The Bitter End (NYC’s oldest rock club), The International Entertainment Buyers Convention in Nashville, Tennessee, along with other conventions in Las Vegas and New York. Other credits include; opening for the Sarasota Blues Fest, which featured the Grammy Award winning band Los Lobos and appearing in a TV pilot called, “Harmony’s Kitchen.”
Alex is thrilled to be a part of this TEDx experience!
